3/19/2013

Hey guys heres what we did in class today!

  • SSR
  • LC discussion
  • Source Integration Examples
During the new lesson Ortega gave us an example of source integration which is where we find a citation in the story we are reading for LC, you explain what the citation shows evidence of, and also the type of source. We were then given a couple of minutes to work with our group to find 5 more citations and told to find 2 on our own before next class.

ex.

Citation: According to the book Early History...mucus-secreting glad. (55) <-page number

Evidence of: Historical understanding of human body.

Type of source: Book

A tip that Ortega gave us was that the type of source was not always going to be clear or given and so you must figure out on your own.

Thats all! I hope everyone has a nice day!

3/04/13

What's up guys! Well today was not a hard day at all. We started of with the usual SSR, discussed our Reading Calender with our Literature Discussion group, and had our first Literature Discussion. In our first LC we had to do a poster that must include: how our book caught our attention, Ethos, Pathos, Logos, and which one was included the most in the book so far. We also had to include some kind of symbols and a quote for each one. We will be presenting them next time we see Ortega.

Homework:

  • Bring LA essay to work on tomorrow
  • Keep reading your book
  • Also Ortega may be checking notebooks

Hey ya'll! So today was an introduction to Non Fiction books. Class started off with SSR for 20 min followed by Mrs. Ortega checking the original literary analysis paper and the revised one. After that, she introduced several Non fiction book to us. The remainder of the block was dedicated into getting new literature circle groups. It was also mentioned that this will be our last literature circle for the year because after spring break, all of English will be devoted to our i-Search papers.

2-26-13

Hey guys! So today was pretty packed with reading. Today we did the normal 20 minutes of SSR, then swapped our typed Literary Analysis papers for peer reviews. Mrs. Ortega taught us how to review the papers and what to do on them exactly. At the end of the class, we received our mid February progress reports.

Hw due 2-28-13

  • Printed copy of your Literary Analysis papers with the revisions you received from today made. Make sure that on your new copy it is clear what you added and what you took out of your previous paper.
  • Have your Notebooks ready for a notebook check. This is "surprise notebook check" week and with Thursday as the only day left for English in the week, it is likely that they will be checked on Thursday.
