3/19/2013

Hey guys heres what we did in class today!

  • SSR
  • LC discussion
  • Source Integration Examples
During the new lesson Ortega gave us an example of source integration which is where we find a citation in the story we are reading for LC, you explain what the citation shows evidence of, and also the type of source. We were then given a couple of minutes to work with our group to find 5 more citations and told to find 2 on our own before next class.

ex.

Citation: According to the book Early History...mucus-secreting glad. (55) <-page number

Evidence of: Historical understanding of human body.

Type of source: Book

A tip that Ortega gave us was that the type of source was not always going to be clear or given and so you must figure out on your own.

Thats all! I hope everyone has a nice day!

What's up guys! Well today was not a hard day at all. We started of with the usual SSR, discussed our Reading Calender with our Literature Discussion group, and had our first Literature Discussion. In our first LC we had to do a poster that must include: how our book caught our attention, Ethos, Pathos, Logos, and which one was included the most in the book so far. We also had to include some kind of symbols and a quote for each one. We will be presenting them next time we see Ortega.

Homework:

  • Bring LA essay to work on tomorrow
  • Keep reading your book
  • Also Ortega may be checking notebooks

Hey ya'll! So today was an introduction to Non Fiction books. Class started off with SSR for 20 min followed by Mrs. Ortega checking the original literary analysis paper and the revised one. After that, she introduced several Non fiction book to us. The remainder of the block was dedicated into getting new literature circle groups. It was also mentioned that this will be our last literature circle for the year because after spring break, all of English will be devoted to our i-Search papers.

HW:

  • Complete a peer review by Sunday on turnitin.
  • Read 10% of your literature circle book and be ready for discussion on Monday.
  • Have your notebooks ready for a surprise notebook check.

2-26-13

Hey guys! So today was pretty packed with reading. Today we did the normal 20 minutes of SSR, then swapped our typed Literary Analysis papers for peer reviews. Mrs. Ortega taught us how to review the papers and what to do on them exactly. At the end of the class, we received our mid February progress reports.

Hw due 2-28-13

  • Printed copy of your Literary Analysis papers with the revisions you received from today made. Make sure that on your new copy it is clear what you added and what you took out of your previous paper.
  • Have your Notebooks ready for a notebook check. This is "surprise notebook check" week and with Thursday as the only day left for English in the week, it is likely that they will be checked on Thursday.

Ello Gov'nah! Top of the morning to you!

I hope that you aren't too groggy from the three day weekend, but if you are then you better get a good night of sleep tonight.

We started off the day with a SSR as usual, but then we went into a new assignment. Our new assignment is titled "Follow Up Questions."
This assignment was all about how to make good follow-up questions after your "good question."
The assignment table looks like this:
Split the paper into four quadrants (the top two are for the examples that Mrs. Ortega gave us.)
Name the left column as Questions and the right column as Follow-ups. Sorry that the picture came out backwards.
After this, we proceeded to have Literature Circle Discussions.

Homework:

  • Read your book
  • Lit Circle Prep 5
  • Be Awesome and come to talent show!
  • seriously, support your fellow North Housians.

Monday 1/07/13

Hello North house and welcome to the New Year at I-Poly High School!

So today in Ortega's classroom we did SSR in the beginning of class, as usual.

Once that was out of the way, Ortega wasted no time in giving us brief summaries on all three of the books we could choose from in our new Literature Circles. Here were our three choices:

-Catcher in the Rye
-The Other Wes Moore
-The Glass Castle

The Other Wes Moore and The Glass Castle were both memoirs of parts of the author's lives and the Catcher in the Rye was a story about a boy that drops out of school and spends a few days in NYC. Once the books and literature circles were assigned, we began to create our reading schedule with our literature circle groups.

Well, that's it for today! Good Luck with the rest of the week my senioritus buddies!
